This diet came out of an interesting observation. A cousin of mine was morbidly obese. She ate large meals often. It was not unusual for her to eat a 2000 to 2500 calorie lunch. She had laparoscopic bariatric surgery, drastically reducing the size of her stomach and lost 100 pounds in a little over the course of a year. I recently had lunch with her and noted the dramatically smaller portion size she consumed. It occurred to me that the volume of food that she consumed at that lunch was no larger then the volume of an average size apple or a baseball. By virtue of the small volume of food eaten the calories were limited to about 250 to 300 calories per meal. Thus an individual eating 5 such portions per day, 3 meals and 2 snacks, would be hard put to consume over 1500 calories a day.The philosophy of the Apple/Baseball Portion size diet is eating the foods that you really like to eat. Be very picky and very choosy. Do not eat the foods hat you do not particularly like to eat. Limit or eliminate high calorie drinks such as soda, fruit juices, milk shakes, alcoholic drinks, etc. Limit the portion size of the foods that you like to a volume that would fit into the volume of an average size apple or baseball. The problem with this rapid weight loss diet is the same as the problem with the most rapid weight loss diets. When you go of of it and back to your old way of eating the weight usually comes back.
